Heart and Soul

How do we sustain our health and wellbeing during this difficult time of isolating and reduced social contact? People can do anything on the short run but how do we maintain our heart and soul over longer periods of time? How do we isolate but avoid being lonely; two very distinct concepts. There is a chance this crisis and need for social distancing could last for months, not weeks. Many of you are already employing strategies for a healthy heart and soul but just in case you have not thought about this, here are some ideas.
Attend to your physical health by eating well, staying hydrated, avoiding sugar and drinking alcohol moderately. Create a daily routine that is satisfying and meets your needs for maintaining your physical health, emotional health, and social health. Engage your creativity and curiosity. Have fun and laugh and invite music into your life. Stay in touch by phone or other safe means with friends and family. We can be isolated but not lonely.
At the end of each of my T’ai Chi classes we express gratitude for something in our life and whisper a message of hope, inspiration and kindness to our self.
